About this Talk

In this talk, Linn Johnels explores the potential of music therapy with people with Rett syndrome. Two key messages are described with examples from recent research.

The potential of music therapy with people with Rett syndrome has a long history, already Andreas Rett recommended the use of music back in the 1960s. Music therapy is the use of music as an intervention to improve different abilities such as communication, physical and cognitive abilities and to promote wellbeing. Many clinicians and music therapists continue to describe the large music interest in people with Rett syndrome and several research studies have stressed that music therapy can uncover hidden resources that may not be seen in standard educational or clinical assessments.
